Tessa Bennett
Attorney
at Law
My desire to
practice law dates back to my elementary school years. My school
held a mock trial in which a judge, a few lawyers, a policeman and
some mock jurors came to teach my class about the legal system. I
was mesmerized by them all and knew right then and there my calling
in life: I was going to help people any way I could by becoming an
attorney; I had the drive and knew I could use my voice to help
those who couldn't help themselves.
Flash forward a
good decade: After working for an attorney and volunteering in a
youth court program in high school, I began volunteering and working
in juvenile court in college to try to help steer, in the right
direction, kids who either made some wrong choices that resulted in
them being in juvenile detention or kids who were in detention
because of abuse or neglect by their parents. My work with children
helped me recognize the necessity of handling sensitive issues with
professionalism and respect for privacy.
During law school I
accepted two internships in prosecutor's offices where I gained
litigation experience and helped my community holding people
accountable for their criminal actions. My positions enabled me to
work with and help victims of crimes and become a strong litigator
through extensive court experience.
My decision to
practice family law stems largely from having seen, through first
hand experience, how difficult it is to deal with a family law
issue, whether it be a divorce, a change in child custody, or an
attempt to gain guardianship of someone you love so you may make
sure they are given the best care possible. The court system can be
extremely scary for someone who has never been involved in any legal
action, let alone someone who quite likely is going through the most
difficult time in their life dealing with a family law issue. I am
very passionate about my work and my desire to help. I recognize and
empathize with every family's unique situation and will do
everything I know how to help you achieve the best results for you
and your family.
